Introduction
What happens when the memories we share today become the records someone encounters in the future?

Join Archivist Tristan Evans for a guided look at the Chilliwack Pride Society fonds and materials connected to Our History Honoured, a community gathering held as part of Collecting Memory and its Active Remembering work.
For much of their history, archives and museums have not collected all communities or experiences equally. Those absences shape what can be known about the past today. Active Remembering asks us to consider that history while also looking forward: how can the relationships we build now help create a richer and more representative historical record for the future?
During Our History Honoured, members of Chilliwack’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community were invited to share memories and experiences through the Memory Workshop. Some participants also chose to contribute personal letters, zines and other records to the Archives, adding individual experiences alongside the organizational records of the Chilliwack Pride Society.
Tristan will share some of these recently collected materials and offer a closer look at how an archival fonds takes shape, what personal and organizational records can preserve, and what changes when communities have an active role in deciding what should be remembered.
Together, we’ll look beyond the idea of the Archives as simply a place where the past is kept and consider how the records being collected today will shape the stories that can be told tomorrow.
